Is there anything better than that first cup of coffee in the morning? I think not! We have a restaurant up the street from our house that we used to go to all the time. The owners knew us by name and they gave my kids hugs every time we walked in the door. They have the absolute BEST french toast in all the land. I have had a lot of french toast and I mean it when I say it’s the best. They have a pastry chef that comes in to make desserts and he also makes fresh bread for them. The cut of the bread was thick on the french toast. I think that’s what made it so good.
I can’t eat the french toast there anymore. Sad face. When you have Celiac Disease there aren’t that many places that offer regular old breakfast food, unless you want meat and eggs. And sometimes restaurants add pancake batter to the eggs to to make then fluffier and thicker. I’m serious (Perkins). So then what, you can’t eat out anywhere?
So, I don’t know where I heard that Original Pancake House was a good option for gluten-free food, but I can attest that they do have pancakes, waffles, french toast, and crepes (along with other typical breakfast fare like eggs, bacon, hash browns, etc). We typically visit the one in Edina, but when I look at the website it looks like all the Minnesota locations have gluten-friendly options and they use Pamela’s Products batter. They also have a separate griddle and waffle iron for gluten free orders. The orders then come out on red plates so you can distinguish which is gluten-free and which is regular. This is awesome!
Here are the menus:
I’ve eaten there a couple of times and the most recent time I had my Nima sensor along. My belgian waffle with berries and the biggest dollop of homemade whipped cream that you’ve ever seen came back as safe! I usually order a side of eggs so I feel like I’m getting a little protein. That was also tested with my Nima and came back as good. I was thrilled. Coffee is free-flowing and delicious. It’s a great atmosphere, but be prepared to wait a while if you’re visiting on a weekend.
I have not been there for lunch yet. Better get on that! Who else loves Original Pancake House?
